Fully self contained, there is a small kitchen, living room and family bathroom with ample space for 2 guests. The Market Cross (ref 31099) is a quirky property which is an ’upside down’ building with the 2 double bedrooms on the ground floor and a large living room and kitchen on the first floor. Once again there are good quality bathroom facilities and many personal touches. The Museum (ref 31096) is perfect for guests who want to enjoy comfortable, practical accommodation. The space has been well used to provide a comfortable sleeping area that has been cleverly screened off from the living room and kitchen area by the careful placement of the furniture and wardrobe. 10 Newgate is located behind a local pub at the heart of Barnard Castle, and guests will be able to leave their car behind to take a leisurely stroll into the town centre, with many top class pubs, restaurants, inns and cafés that line the old fashioned high street. There is also a weekly farmers market that provides local produce, arts, crafts, food and drink, and several boutique and gift shops that are scattered throughout the town. At the end of Galgate is Scar Top and the ruins of the stone castle date back to 1125 and gives the town its name. The castle also overlooks the River Tees and offers magnificent views over the surrounding areas. A little further afield but still within only a few miles distance, guests will find the pretty picture-postcard village of Staindrop, which is set in a dedicated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is definitely worth the short trip out to visit. Perfect for walkers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts, Barnard Castle is set amongst some of the most magnificent countryside that the county has to offer. There are many public footpaths, established walks and cycle paths that lead through the town, alongside the River Tees and out into rolling countryside and beyond, towards places and attractions including Binchester Roman Fort and Raby Castle, as well as many National Trust houses and sites. The cathedral city of Durham is only a 30-minute drive away and is perfect for guests wanting to include a theatre break into their stay, a romantic boat ride along the River Wear, a meal out in one of the bistros and restaurants, boutique shopping or the opportunity to visit the famous cathedral and Durham Castle, which is steeped in history and tradition. Durham is a city that is thriving all year round and offers free on street entertainment on a regular basis including the annual book week, Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, art festival, miners gala and many more. For those wanting to travel a little further afield, guests will find all the majesty and beauty of both High Force and Low Force waterfalls or be able to explore the Durham Dales, Pennines and even the northern counties of Northumberland and Cumbria all within an easy 2-hour drive.
